The Invention of Fear

so for this assignment for my senior illustration class, we were asked to illustrate an inventor with his/her invention. rather than do a portrait of someone with an object, i decided i wanted to depict something more abstract. so here the girl is the inventor, and her invention is fear in the form of wolf skulls that are eating her hair. fear is her invention because fear is the manifestations of one's mind.
i used oil on illustration board.

A Good Man Is Hard To Find

this assignment was to make an illustration based on the short story a good man is hard to find. i chose to illustrate the scene in which June Star is being taken into the woods by one of the Misfit's men to be killed. The colors in the scan are off, in person it is a bit more brown. i used oil on illustration board.

Rosemary's Baby Final

Rosemary's Baby

so, for my second illustration assignment, i decided to do a poster for the movie rosemary's baby. this is my sketch and color study. the color study is way more yellow in the background than what i want the actual final to be....i want it to be a more true wine red, and the shadows will be a tad darker

1st Senior Illustration Assignment

so, just started senior year on sept 2....gah. this was my first assignment for my illustration class, aka the elly class. i chose to do a cd cover for the band afi's decemberunderground cd. it went over well.

Update on Vampire Girl

so i showed my painting in progress to my teacher last year, tim o'brien, and he thinks its a good piece. he did give me some advice, which was to lay off a bit on the contrast in her face, and he did i digital alteration of it which i also think makes it look better. now lets just see if i can get it to look more like this:

this sketch was inspired by the new album from my favorite band, Avenged Sevenfold, called Nightmare. when i saw the was just so awesome that i was inspired to make my own nightmare picture. here's the A7X cd cover....when i found out who the artist is, i will post it.

here's my sketch. and yes, i also was inspired by the first Nightmare on Elm Street movie poster. i'm gonna make the deathbat guy because i still want it to be related to Avenged Sevenfold because, well, they're awesome.

Vampire girl

so i started drawing a picture in my sketchbook, and i realized she reminded me of the young vampire girl from True Blood, Jessica, so i decided to embrace that when i began painting her. i'm not finished her yet, as you can tell. she will have blood on her fingers when its done. and is on the back of an illustration board...

Next Assignment Up

a bookcover for the young adult novel Wintergirls, about a girl who is suffering from anorexia along with being haunted by the death of her best friend from the same disorder. these are two of my sketches with color. i also did purple coloring for both....but i like the blue better. personally my favorite is the top one, but i think i'd like it with the bottom one's face and blue color. we'll see what mark tocchet says.

stuff from this school year...a needed update

done this semester for tim o'brien. he cleverly titled it "maybe he's gay". this was my first individual assignment for him.
this one was my final piece for last semester, mark tocchet's class. we had to pick a quote from a list, evaluate it, and figure out a creative way to depict it. the quote i picked was "how did it get so late so soon?" and to me it is about how life passes by so quickly.
my first assignment last semester for mark tocchet's class. we had to make a picture of something that is important to us...and i'm guessing some people are wondering why an image of a dead guy is important to me. well, this is based off of a repetative dream i had which caused me not to be able to sleep for a while because every time i did i would get that dream.
this is my most recent painting for mark tocchet's class. the assignment was bookcovers for classic fiction novels. i chose ray bradbury's something wicked this way comes.

so i finally got scans of some of my work from this school year, and underneath them are descriptions of what they are...yay! all are done in acrylic paint on illustration board.
