Oh My...I must get better at updating this

Geez, Louise its been a while! Been a busy, busy bee lately. Balancing artwork, my job, and a complicated relationship status takes its toll. But enough about that, here's the new art!

Working on a new personal piece, as well as a commissioned piece. The personal piece is an oil painting based on the concept of the balancing act we all play between following our heart and following our brain. I've gotten into adding art nouveau elements to my work, Mucha-esque framing mainly.  Here's a progress shot; its not far along for me yet to add a straight on shot.

The commissioned piece is a digital one. Started as a pencil drawing and then I digitally colored it. She's not done yet, still have to tweak some things, like the proportions of the egg. I think it should be bigger.

Update: Phantasm an Book Cover Gig

Hello! So its been a while, I know. So, some things I've been up to: I did a poster for a screening of the movie Phantasm, and currently I am working on a book cover gig, both posted respectively. I'm pretty excited about the book cover, since its a departure from my normal sometimes disturbing subject matter, haha. The Phantasm poster was a fun experiment as well. Normally when I do digital work, I use an ink pen to draw out my lines. For this one, I knew I wanted a lot of solid black, so I actually used black acrylic paint. This is also the first time I used filters to create different effects, like the grain in the background, and the first time I have done hand drawn text.

Hello Again, Blog

So it's been a little while since I've posted on here, which means it is time for a massive update blog. I think it would be best to just make a list about what has been happening art wise lately with me, so here it goes!
Alright! Phew, that was a lot more than I remembered it being. I should probably get back to posting blog posts more frequently. And yesterday I finally got to the beach for the first time since summer started. It was awesome. Can't wait to get back there again.

So I have finished and sent in my illustration for Crimson Lace Productions' Have a Heart For Horror Cookbook, and today I received some exciting news. My image was chosen as the cover art for the book! I should be seeing what the typography looks like on it soon :)

Thanksgiving and New Work

So Thanksgiving was a lot of fun this year. I went up to my boyfriend's parent's house in the Finger Lakes, New York. The house was beautiful; it sits right by a waterfall. Overall it was a nice, relaxing time filled with lots of food. Now its back to reality. Tuesday I go on my third week of interning at the Cotton Candy Machine in Brooklyn. Time sure does fly.

And for an art update, here are some watercolor and pen pieces that I did before leaving for the holiday.

None More Blacklight! Follow-up

What can I say but an awesome show! Thanks again to Dave Fox for letting me participate. There were a lot of people there, the Black Vulture Gallery was basically packed. And there was a band playing a tribute to Spinal Tap...hilarious by the way. Here's some pictures from the night.

Also, its only two days away from my first group show at the Starlight Ballroom in Philly. If you are going to be in the area this Saturday, please stop by and say hi! Tickets are $10 for students with ID and $12 for adults. It should be a lot of fun!

Frustration Beyond Belief

The internship is really stressing me out. I'm so aggravated/hurt/AGGH!!
But aside from that, the freelance work may be picking up. I'm working on the cover for Barbara Meyer's first book of her new series. I also am doing promotional things for her; I just finished making some pretty bookmarks :) And I should be hearing soon from a girl that I'm painting custom shoes for within the next week. And my Morpheus Tales illustration is done and has been sent in. Here's the finish:

News

I am now the intern for Girl Approved. I went on an interview with the lady behind the company, Heidi, and she really liked my work. I will be interning with her for two months. I'm pretty excited :)

Also on the topic of news, here's what I've been working on lately:

-The illustration for Morpheus Tales. Almost done, just have to do more tedious detail work.

-Designs on shoes for a girl starting her own shoe company. All the shoes she gets made will be custom painted, and hopefully if she likes the job I do on these trial pairs, she will come back to me for the real deal.
-And, just started tonight, a painting of Claudia from Interview With A Vampire. I love that book (and movie), and I love the concept of her being young forever, like the porcelain dolls Louise gives her. I just did a quick under-painting, which I never do, and hoping to get more into it tomorrow. Here's a picture of the under-painting, done in oil paint thinned out with liquin.

And yes, she is done on the back of an illustration board. I'm recycling :)

Trying to Dig

Well, after work today was spent doing more research, applying to more things, trying to contact more galleries etc. An illustration of mine is going to be used as a book cover for Bizarre Books, so there's good news. Unfortunately two shows of mine got pushed back. The Reflections Show is now October 22nd, which I will write up more on that, and I'm not sure when exactly I will know about the Lucifer Philly solo show, hopefully within the next two weeks, so I will post about that when I find out. Also have two more weeks until I find out if I got the internship at Penguin Books....fingers crossed. Agh, and my book cover job from NY got pushed back until November...hopefully I'm still getting it. So it's really a lot of waiting. My plan is on Saturday to go around to some Philly galleries I looked up and hand out my promos like crazy. I just a getting so tired of waiting around in Limbo.
